Nicaragua Welcomes 2014

Once an up-and-coming travel destination, Nicaragua is now firmly planted on the list of must-visit spots in Central America. Known as the Land of Lakes and Volcanoes, Nicaragua has recently been recognized for its unique, exciting and beautiful locations ready to be explored. The country’s diverse offerings – ranging from adventure (sandboarding down a volcano, fishing in the Rio San Juan, ziplining through cloud forests, surfing the Pacific coast) to wellness (luxury spas, beachside yoga) to culture (centuries-old architecture, authentic cuisine) – and growing touristic products ensure another safe and exciting year of travel in Central America’s “hot spot” destination.

Sustainable Tourism for 2014

The country of Nicaragua places great value in its incredible natural settings and takes great strides to protect it while growing tourism to the destination. Therefore, 2014 will see an emphasis on sustainable travel to Nicaragua. With Nicaragua being home to some of Central America’s most untouched nature reserves; thriving plantations of coffee, sugar cane and tobacco; and abundant flora and fauna, it’s easy to see why the country has initiated a focus on maintaining its natural offerings. The Nicaraguan Tourism Board (INTUR) will continue to work with the organization Tour Operators Promoting Sustainability (TOPS), alongside Rainforest Alliance, to promote sustainable tourism within Nicaragua. This continued effort will allow visitors to explore the country in a socially and environmentally responsible way.
