Lonely Planet Names Nicaragua #3 Destination on Best Value List

Lonely Planet, the renowned travel guide, recently released its “Best in Travel 2014” list highlighting the world’s top travel destinations and experiences. Nicaragua was chosen by the publication’s authors and editors as one of the “best value travel destinations for 2014” – coming in at #3 out of the entire world.

Inviting Culture

Nicaragua’s inviting culture, diverse geography and budget-friendly offerings no doubt placed it in the top three “best value destinations,” but its history, nature, beach, people, and temperate climate make the destination perfect for travel any time throughout the year. Known as one of the safest countries in Central America, Nicaragua offers a variety of activities to suit all travel styles, ranging from volcano sand boarding, surfing and hiking, to wellness retreats, birding and coffee, rum and cigar tours, making this a destination for everyone.

Travel Agent Magazine & Its Readers Vote Nicaragua as a “Trending Destination”

Adventure Travel

Nicaragua, the land of lakes and volcanoes, was included in Travel Agent magazine’s November issue as a top 10 “trending destination.” The trade publication “identified a number of buzzworthy places around the globe” and then polled its readers to determine which of these hot destinations were worthy of making the cut. Nicaragua landed near the top, being touted for its adventure travel, surf and newest luxury resort – Mukul Beach, Golf & Spa – as game changers for those looking to explore something different and unique in Central America. The development of new Wyndham Hotels and Resorts and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts properties in Nicaragua, as well as the country’s natural offerings, also helped it earn the “trending destination” nomination.

Davidoff Nicaragua Cigar Launch

Nicaragua’s cigar industry is booming. The country’s fertile soil and expert growers have allowed Nicaragua to become one of the top exporters of premium cigars to the U.S. It is without surprise, then, that notable cigar companies are eager to develop their own Nicaraguan cigars and are capitalizing on the country’s premier, hand-crafted cigars.

Adventure Travel

Venerable cigar company Davidoff Cigar is one of those leading the way. In September 2013, the company launched a new line of cigars: the Davidoff Nicaragua collection. Made up of 100 percent Puro Nicaraguan blend tobacco, the cigars are wrapped in 10-year-old Habano Seed Nicaragua Rosado wrappers. The cigar has a binder from Jalapa and a filler blend of tobaccos from Esteli, Condega and Ometepe. They also come in three sizes: Toro, Robusto and Short Corona. These cigars bring a taste of Nicaragua to North America, but your clients can also take their very own cigar tours – seeing how the tobacco is grown and harvested and even rolling their own cigars – with a trip to Nicaragua.

Renowned as one of the best rums in Latin America, Nicaragua’s popular Flor de Caña Rum is family owned and has celebrated more than 120 years of rum production. The award-winning product utilizes a signature Slow-Aged™ process to offer a full portfolio of high-quality, naturally aged rums without the use of additives to accelerate the aging process.

Rum

Flor de Caña premium and super premium rums are distilled and handcrafted from estate-grown sugar cane at Flor de Caña’s fully self-sustaining facility in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua. There is a diverse selection of aged rums that may be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a variety of mixed cocktails, such as Nicaragua’s “national drink,” the Macua.

Travelers looking to discover the traditions and heritage of Central America’s leading brand of rum may visit the company’s local factory in Leon. There, visitors can tour of the facility, learn about the rum-making process, speak with a Master Distiller and enjoy delicious rum tastings.
